There’s no better antidote to sweltering weather than eating cold food. Maybe the actual physical effect is temporary, but the psychological result of, say, cold noodles sliding down your throat, or a cold seafood salad with its tangy vinaigrette, or the smoothness of cold tofu on the tongue, are long lasting. Here are five cold dishes I have enjoyed lately that helped me re-emerge into the furnace of the ambient air with renewed vigor and hopefulness.
