It’s not olive loaf, but seems closely related: the chopped olives & cream cheese sandwich at S&P Lunch - quite tasty, though I could have done with slightly less cream cheese than they put on the sandwich
One of my faves and I’ll order anytime I see it. Hard to beat a classic on white bread with mustard but the fancy one at Turkey and the Wolf in New Orleans comes close.
Love a good liverwurst - my fave is in Galien, Michigan at Ray and Al’s. It’s made with bacon, mayo, Dijon, and pickled red onion and is something special.
Not quite the same as your project, but Barry Enderwick’s “Sandwiches of History” (2024) is a worthy entry in food archaeology, reconstructing forgotten sandwiches going back to the 1800s and beyond. He even has a recipe for a “toast sandwich” - toast between two untoasted slices, meant predictably for folks on a restricted diet. Distant relative of the chip butty.
Now I'm going to have to keep an eye out for these things—good game for all of us to play! I swear I saw olive loaf somewhere fairly recently, but what is time anymore?
Several years ago at Clemente's in Gravesend, I treated myself to olive loaf and mozzarella on a roll, in large part because I hadn't seen (or hadn't noticed) olive loaf in ages. I have to get down that way again!
Best meatloaf sandwich at Momma's Mustard, Pickles, & BBQ in Louisville. Especially the mashup meatloaf-grilled cheese sandwich!
"Back in the day", when I first moved to NYC in the early 80s, there was a burger place somewhere up near Central Park, and I'm not remembering the name of it, but they offered a "Smithfield Burger", which was a burger topped with about half a can of Smithfield deviled ham. It was so good....
Dulce de Leche, the NJ mini-chain of Argentine bakeries, sell a fantastic crustless ham and cheese tea sandwich, about whose provenance I would like to learn more
Sardines and raw onion, ideally on black bread!
I forgot: mayonnaise, and maybe a leaf of lettuce.
Ham Salad, the best of the forgotten!!!

And last few years bologna has started disappearing!

Faicco’s on Bleecker used to carry olive loaf. I bet they still do.

I see pimento grilled cheeses on menus more often than a cold pimento cheese sandwich. Captain Dan’s Good Time Tavern in Bed-Stuy does a good one.
My house. We eat all of those on a fairly regular basis.

Tuna salad sandwich?!?

The pimento cheese sandwich at The Masters is apparently still only a buck and a half. Of course, a pass to the tournament costs a tad bit more!
